Director's statement

I search for the relations between building and home makers, streets and travelers, cities and its people – always shrouded in a structure of mystique. For me structures both real and virtual are always alive, vibrating with a life of their own. I wrote the script for this film to grapple with a tangled knot of structures built out of a mansion and people around it, interwoven with their relationship the city that houses both. I was inspired by the location – a dying building. And, soon after I finished shooting the building actually died, may it rest in peace now.

That very house brought in a plethora stories that always attracted me – of the blue blood of traditional families of the old part of Dhaka, of a killer who submits to a master to repent his sin, an aging poet who wears seven differently colored undergarments round the week, and a young woman who runs away from her abusive husbands to face her tradition-stilted father and a sweet talking desire driven suitor.

For her the mansion opens windows of memory and for the poet glimpses of hope, while for the blue blooded father it displays decay and for the local toughs a basket of opportunities. For my unit, my cast and my crew, the mansion opened a gateway to a million wonders, and bonding of love that survived even when the film was done.

I am thankful to all of them, to the people of the neighborhood who came forward with every help I needed, and to God who was and still is there to support me and my team.
